A Brass Riad Door Framed in Cobalt Tilework
Hung on a wall-facing rail, this blue and gold shower curtain works like a false doorway: a photographed horseshoe arch filled with tall brass-colored doors, the surround covered in cobalt, turquoise and white zellige tile, with slim columns to either side and a run of patterned border above. The perspective is straight on and the doors reach almost to the top of the panel, so the whole thing reads as an opening in the wall rather than as a picture hung on it. The gold occupies the centre; every cool color surrounds it. Nothing in the photograph is styled or staged, which is why it holds up as an image rather than a mood board.

Standing In for a Bathroom Window You Do Not Have

On the 71-inch widths the arch is close to a real door in scale, which is what creates the illusion. Narrower cuts still work but read more like a photograph than an opening. Straight-on lighting helps; a spotlight from one side breaks the effect.
It is printed rather than metallic, so the brass tone comes from the photograph's own highlights rather than from any reflective finish. In a warm-lit room it convincingly reads as aged brass. Under cool white light it flattens towards ochre.
A deep cobalt dominates the tile field, with turquoise in the smaller mosaic sections and white in the geometric infill. There is also a grey stone tone in the columns that keeps the blues from becoming overwhelming. Towels in plain white or deep teal both work.
