A Tyrannosaur Coming Through a Broken Concrete Wall
The motif on this brown print shower curtain is a single piece of trompe l'oeil theatre: a tyrannosaur photographed head-on with its jaws open, bursting forward through a wall of pale grey concrete that shatters into chunks and dust across the lower half of the panel. Broken blocks tumble outward toward the viewer, some catching light on their cut faces, and behind the animal a strip of green jungle and sky shows through the hole it has made. The skin is rendered in mottled olive and brown with proper scale texture, the teeth are individually modelled, and the whole thing is lit from the front so the shadows fall onto the fake rubble. It is designed to read as depth rather than as a flat picture, and it does.

Most children find it exciting rather than alarming, because the styling is closer to a film poster than to anything gory. There is no blood and no prey in the image. A child who is already nervous at bath time is the exception.
It works best hung flat and viewed straight on, where the tumbling blocks appear to come off the surface. Gathered into folds the illusion softens considerably. Lighting from the front rather than the side keeps the printed shadows consistent with the real ones.
Grey dominates the lower half where the concrete breaks up, while the animal and the jungle behind it carry the browns and greens. From a distance it averages to a warm stone tone. It sits comfortably in a room with grey tile.
