The Multi Colored Shower Curtains set a grey tabby kitten mid-leap, paws out and eyes wide, against a deep black star field with a nebula burning green, gold and rose behind it. It is a composite rather than a photograph, and the drama comes from the contrast: almost the whole panel is black with pinpoint stars, and all the colour is concentrated in a ring around the animal. That concentration is why a very dark panel does not close a room in, because the eye goes straight to the lit centre.

The animal is photographic and the space behind it is not, so the panel is a composite. It has been lit to match, with the rim light on the fur following the nebula, which is what makes the join convincing.
The nebula is, and the stars around it are secondary. Because the lit centre carries almost all the colour, the eye settles there and the surrounding darkness reads as depth rather than as weight. Against white tile the panel behaves like a framed image on the wall.
Fine enough that individual points are visible up close and dissolve into a soft grain from across the room. That detail is the first thing to suffer from a hot wash, so keep the temperature down.
