Colour placement is what this pink and gold shower curtain is built on: an isometric cube lattice outlined in fine gold, with each facet filled in a slightly different tone so the panel grades from pale blush at the top through dusty rose and mauve into charcoal and near-black at the hem. No two adjacent cubes share a shade. The gradient is vertical, which makes the panel look lit from above even in flat light. The lattice is drawn in true isometric projection rather than approximated, so the cubes hold their form across the whole panel and the gradient reads as light falling on a solid surface.

There is no hard line. The change happens gradually through the middle third, with mauve doing the transition. Which part of the panel you notice depends heavily on where the light in your bathroom falls.
Every one, in a thin continuous line, which is what holds the tonal facets apart. Without it the gradient would blur into a wash and the isometric geometry would disappear.
Both. It is a design decision, but it also means the part of the panel that gets splashed is the darkest, so water marks and soap film show far less than they would on an all-pale curtain.
