Warm Gold Wings That Should Not Be Washed Hot

The large butterfly on this white and gold shower curtain is painted in warm amber and tan ink rather than metallic foil, and that distinction decides how it should be looked after: pigment of that kind stays rich on a cool cycle and goes chalky under heat. The wings span most of the panel, edged in fine black dots, with sepia flower heads dissolving into the white ground behind them. Nothing on the panel is foiled or glittered, so there is no coating to lift. Wash it gently and the amber holds its depth for years. The white behind the wings is left almost entirely bare, so the panel carries one large mark rather than an all-over repeat, and that single mark is what has to survive the laundry.

  • Three cuts: 59 x 71, 71 x 71 and 71 x 79 inches
  • Woven polyester, water-resistant face
  • Amber and tan butterfly with sepia florals
  • Printed ink, no foil or glitter
  • 12 silver-tone metal grommets
  • 12 reinforced hooks included
  • Anti-stain and anti-mildew treatment
  • Machine wash at 86°F
  • White ground behind the motif
  • One panel per pack
  • Motif scaled to each width
  • Sewn hems on all four sides

Amber and White Against Brass Fittings

The warm half of the palette lands well in a room with brass or champagne-finish taps, where a cooler print would fight the metal. It is grouped under our gold shower curtains, and for a much smaller botanical mark on the same white ground the Tub Shower Curtain is the restrained alternative. Both keep the wall pale, which matters in a room without a window. It also photographs well in a small room, since one large motif reads as deliberate where a busy print reads as clutter.

Questions, answered.

The wings span roughly the middle two thirds of the width and about half the height, so it is one large mark rather than a small motif floating in space. The sepia flower heads fill in behind the lower wing and fade out before the edges. Everything outside that is bare white ground.

No. The motif is scaled to each cut, so the butterfly stays whole at every width. On the narrow panel it simply sits closer to the side hems, with less white margin around it.

Not on a cool cycle with the panel washed alongside light colours only. What greys a white ground is usually dye transfer from a dark load rather than the water itself. Avoid bleach, which would attack the amber before it brightened the white.
