The image is scaled rather than cropped, so a stall panel shows the same composition at a smaller size. The finest shading in the hands is the first thing to soften, which is why the 71 inch widths suit the drawing best.
It is a graded smoke tone that darkens behind the figures and lightens at the edges, so it works as depth rather than a backdrop. Against white tile that gradient is what stops the panel looking like a poster.
It behaves like a neutral. Because there is no hue in the print, it will not clash with green, blue or terracotta tile, though it looks strongest where the surrounding palette is restrained.
