Spectrum Bands With a Rippled Reflection at the Hem
Two things determine how long this colorful striped shower curtain keeps its impact, and both are about washing: the bands are fully saturated with no neutral to hide behind, and the lower quarter carries a printed water reflection where each color repeats in soft rippled fragments. Above that line the stripes are clean vertical bands in yellow, orange, red, magenta, violet, blue and two greens; below it the same colors break up into wavering horizontal marks, as though the panel were standing in shallow water. It is a clever piece of composition because the reflection stops the stripes from ending abruptly at the hem. Any dulling of the dye shows in the reflection first, since the pale rippled sections have the least pigment holding them up.

It is a printed reflection, as though the striped panel were standing in a shallow pool. The colors repeat in broken horizontal marks rather than continuing as bands. It gives the design an ending instead of a cut-off.
The vertical section has clean edges where one color meets the next, with no blending. The reflection below is deliberately soft and broken. That contrast between crisp and blurred is what makes the composition work.
Only in the lightest parts of the reflection, where the ripples break. The main body is continuous color from one edge to the other. That is what makes it read as a block of brightness from the doorway.
The rippled section belongs at the bottom, nearest the floor, with the clean bands above it. Hung the other way up the illusion collapses immediately. The grommet header marks the correct top edge.
