The ground of these decorative fabric shower curtains is navy rather than the black the supplier sheet claims, a difference you notice the moment daylight reaches it: the blue comes forward and the gold ornament warms up against it. The repeat is a classic damask, ogee-shaped medallions in fine ochre linework, each one linked to its neighbours by thin scrolling stems, set in staggered rows so the eye reads diagonals rather than a rigid grid. Nothing about the drawing is heavy; the medallions are outlines rather than solid shapes, so the navy stays visible through the whole repeat.

The photograph is. The ground is a deep navy that can pass for black under a dim warm bulb but shows clearly as blue in daylight or under cool lighting. We have left it in the blue and the black collections for that reason, but treat it as navy when you are matching towels.
The repeat is printed continuously across the width, so gathering the panel breaks the rows into visible and hidden sections rather than misaligning them. Pulled flat the staggered rows are regular; hung with deep folds you see the medallions in vertical bands.
It reads as traditional, but the linework is fine rather than heavy, so it behaves more like a textured wallpaper than a period furnishing fabric. Set against a plain white basin and square chrome taps it supplies the decoration the room otherwise lacks. The ochre is printed pigment rather than metallic ink, so it warms under a lamp instead of glinting.
