Deep Indigo and Leaf Gold on an Iridescent Ground
The navy shower curtain is built from one very dark blue and one metallic-looking gold. A serene face in profile occupies the centre of the panel, rendered almost entirely in indigo with gold leafing worked into the brow, the crown and the shoulders, and it floats on a pale iridescent wash that shifts from lilac to mint across the background. The contrast is extreme: the figure is nearly black in the shadows while the ground behind it stays chalky and light. The gold is worked in as flat leaf rather than as shading, so it sits on the surface of the face like inlay, and the iridescence behind shifts from lilac to a faint mint depending on where you stand in the room.

Neither. It is printed pigment that reads as leaf because of the way the highlights are painted, not because anything metallic has been applied. That is why it will not flake off a fold or scratch against the rod, though it also will not glint under a spotlight the way real foil does.
The iridescent wash is a mid-tone rather than a true white, which hides splash better than a plain pale panel. Hard-water spotting is the thing to watch on the lower edge, and warm water on a cloth clears it before it dries in.
It is clearly blue rather than black in daylight, and closer to black under a dim bulb. Against matte black taps it reads as a deep blue-black pairing that is intentional. Against charcoal grey it can look muddy, which is the combination to avoid.
