Description
A Square Steel Box With the Brackets Hidden Behind It
The point of this floating shower shelf is what you cannot see: the mounting hardware sits behind the panel rather than under it, so from the front and from below there is nothing but a square of matte black steel apparently growing out of the wall. The body is close to a cube, deep enough to stand a tall bottle upright inside it, with an open top and a short return at one side that gives you a second small ledge above the main compartment. The steel is folded rather than moulded, so the edges are crisp and the corners square.
- Dimensions: 8.9 x 8.9 inches, 3.8 inches deep
- Material: stainless steel with a matte black finish
- Mounting: concealed fixings, screws to the wall
- Format: square open-topped compartment
- Finish properties: rustproof and water-resistant

Where a Deep Shelf Beats a Long One
Choose the square format over a long rail when the wall you have is narrow, a shower return or the strip between a screen and a corner, and when what you actually store is a few full-size bottles rather than a row of small ones. The recessed look also keeps the shower reading clean. In a black-fitted bathroom it pairs naturally with the Floating Shower Shelf - Black Stainless Steel, Small at a different height, or with a panel in the same register such as the Gray Textured Shower Curtain. Fitted at shoulder height it keeps bottles out of a child's reach while staying easy for an adult to use one-handed, which the open top makes possible.

The fixings pass through a plate that sits behind the body of the shelf, so the screw heads are hidden inside the unit rather than showing beneath it. Structurally it is a normal screwed wall fixing; the difference is purely that you cannot see it once the shelf is on.
It screws to the wall, so you will be drilling tile. Working through the middle of a tile rather than a grout joint is actually the stronger option provided you use a tile bit and a suitable plug, since the plug then sits in solid substrate.
It is an open box, so water carried in on bottles collects on the floor of it rather than draining away. In practice that means tipping it out or wiping it dry occasionally, which is the trade-off for a closed format that hides clutter.
The body is stainless steel and the finish is applied over it, so the material itself does not corrode in a wet room. The point to watch is the fixings you use: stainless or coated screws are worth the small extra cost in a shower.
