The Gold Color Shower Curtains take their colour from the subject rather than from a dye: the whole panel is a photograph of gold bars stacked in rows, lit from the upper left so that the top faces glare almost white while the sides drop into deep amber and bronze. That range is the point. It is not a flat metallic print but a photograph with real highlight and shadow in it, which means the panel changes noticeably between daylight and a warm bulb. Individual ingots are stamped and numbered, and at close range you can read the markings on the ones nearest the front.

Is the gold shiny or matte?

The cloth itself is matte woven polyester. All of the shine you see is in the photograph, so the panel looks metallic from a distance but has no reflective finish and will not catch light the way a foil print does.

Does it look gaudy in a small bathroom?

Less than you would expect, because the image is dark in the lower half where the shadows sit. In a small room it behaves like a warm dark panel rather than a bright one.

Can you read the markings on the bars?

On the nearest few, yes. Stamped weights and serial numbers are legible from a couple of feet, which is a large part of what makes the image convincing rather than decorative.
