A Pug Reading the Daily Dog Over Breakfast

Above the scene the panel turns to flat lemon yellow. The photograph is composed and lit like a real breakfast shot, which is why the joke lands rather than reading as a cartoon. The robe is a proper striped towelling one and the newspaper is held open in both paws, which is the detail that sells the whole thing.

Is the dog photographed or illustrated?

Photographed, then composited with the newspaper and the table setting. The fur, the folds of the robe and the reflections in the juice glass are all real, which is what makes the setup work.

Can you read the newspaper?

The masthead reads clearly and there are legible fragments in the columns, but most of the body text is set as filler. It is meant to be recognized rather than read.

Does the yellow section take up much of the panel?

Roughly the top quarter, above the scene. On a tall rod it sits above eye level and functions as a border rather than a block of color.
