The Ocean Shower Curtain is dominated by a colour rather than a subject: a bank of cloud lit from beneath in burning orange and copper, sitting over a low grey sea and a strip of wet sand that mirrors the whole sky back. The blues in the upper corners are almost incidental, cool slate shadows that exist to make the orange read hotter. Because the reflection doubles the light, the bottom half of the panel is as warm as the top, and the eye finds no cold place to rest. The horizon sits low, which leaves most of the height to the cloud and makes the sky feel bigger than the sea.
