Washing a High-Contrast Print Without Losing Its Edge

Everything about the red and teal shower curtain depends on the contrast holding: a symmetrical kaleidoscopic form built from fine turquoise, scarlet and gold linework, floating on a solid black ground. Soap film is the real threat rather than fading, because a grey haze settling over black flattens the whole thing and the pattern loses its glow long before any colour goes. A cool wash every few weeks rather than an occasional deep clean is what keeps it looking the way it did in the packet. The form itself is intricate: dozens of fine strokes radiate from a central axis and resolve, depending on how long you look, into either a mask or a flower.

A Symmetrical Graphic for a Dark Painted Room

Black grounds behave oddly in bathrooms: in a white room the panel becomes a hole in the wall, while in a room already painted charcoal or deep green it reads as depth and the bright linework glows off it.
