A Vast Pale Whale Beneath a Small Ship

A flat field of teal is the hardest thing to keep even, which is what makes the treated weave matter on the Sea Shower Curtain: the whole background is one continuous blue-green, and any water mark on it shows as a ring. Sitting in that field is an enormous pale whale, drawn from the front with its mouth open and its body fading out toward the bottom edge, while a tiny three-masted ship floats on the wave line above its head. The contrast in size is the entire idea. Fine parallel lines run along the whale's underside where the throat pleats would be, and the eye is drawn as a single small dot, which is all the detail the illustration allows itself.

How pale is the whale against the background?

It is a soft off-white with fine texture lines through it, several shades lighter than the teal, so it reads clearly without being a hard white shape. The lower half fades gradually into the ground.

Is the ship easy to miss?

At a glance, yes, which is intentional. It sits on the wave line near the top of the panel and is small enough that most people notice the whale first and the ship a moment later.

Is the teal closer to blue or green?

It sits between them with slightly more green, close to a shallow-water tone. Against white tile it reads as a clear color; next to grey it looks bluer.
