A Turtle Painted Over a Weathered Chart
The composition on this teal and brown shower curtain layers two things that rarely sit together: a green sea turtle painted in loose watercolour, and behind it a weathered brown ground of old chart paper, faded script and a printed compass rose. Starfish, a nautilus shell and a fan of coral are scattered around the edges like specimens pinned to a page. That collision of a living animal and a dry archival background is what stops it reading as another aquarium print, and it is why the brown matters as much as the teal. The turtle is painted with the water left showing through it in places, so the chart underneath is faintly visible across the shell.

Yes, it reproduces the marks of aged chart paper, including faded script and a compass rose, rather than being a plain brown. Up close you can read the texture of it. That layering is what gives the panel its depth.
It is a muted sea green with grey in it rather than a bright turquoise, which is what lets it sit against the brown without clashing. Beside a saturated teal towel it will look softer. In daylight the green reads slightly warmer.
It is a mid tone rather than a dark one, so it absorbs less light than a navy or charcoal panel would. In a small room it still reads warm rather than heavy. Pale tile around it keeps the balance right.
