The knobs themselves are solid, so the limit is the bond behind the plate rather than the wood. Spread the weight across all three rather than loading the end knob.
It is supplied as an adhesive fitting, and the backplate is designed to sit flush without visible fixings. Drilling it defeats the point of the design.
The knobs are turned and finished smooth, with the grain still visible. No sealant specification is given in the product data, so drying them after use is the sensible approach.
Only the width of the plate itself, and very little depth, which is why it works on the narrow wall beside a shower where a rail would not fit.
