Description
A Nineteenth-Century Anatomy Plate on Cloth
Reproducing an engraved plate demands a cloth that holds hairline detail, and this vintage fabric shower curtain is printed on a fine woven polyester for that reason: four full-length human figures, two skeletal and two showing musculature, are laid across an aged parchment ground with every tendon, rib and vessel drawn as a separate line. On a coarse weave those lines would merge into red and grey masses. Here they stay separate at arm's length, which is the only way an anatomical plate is worth putting on a wall at all. Colour is limited to rust red for the muscle, pale blue-grey for the bone and the warm parchment behind, so nothing on the panel is saturated.
- Five cuts, 35 x 71 up to 71 x 79 inches
- Fine woven polyester with a water-resistant face
- Antique anatomical plate, four figures
- Aged parchment ground with rust and grey inks
- Hairline detail held across the print
- 12 silver-tone metal grommets
- 12 reinforced hooks included
- Anti-stain and anti-mildew treatment
- Machine wash at 86°F
- One panel per pack
- Figures stand side by side
- Sewn hem on all four sides
A Cabinet-of-Curiosities Panel in a Plain Room
It belongs in a bathroom furnished like a study, with dark timber, an old mirror or framed prints already on the wall, and it is a deliberate choice rather than a background. It is filed with our unique shower curtains, and for a panel that is equally graphic but drawn by hand rather than engraved the White Farmhouse Shower Curtain is the quieter neighbour. Both read as artwork on cloth. In a plain white bathroom it becomes the single thing anyone comments on, which is either the reason to buy it or the reason not to.

Questions, answered.
Yes, the plate is scaled rather than cropped, so all four stand on every cut. On the 35-inch width they are naturally narrower and closer together. None is cut off at the side hems.
It is an engraved scientific plate rather than a photographic image, which puts it closer to a museum print than to anything gory. Some households find it fascinating and others find it too much. It is worth deciding before it goes on the rod.
The musculature is printed in a rusty red rather than a bright one, in keeping with the period inks the plate imitates. Against the parchment it reads warm. Nothing on the panel is saturated.
