Description

Baroque Scrollwork in Powder Blue and Sand

Printed on a matte polyester with a soft dry handle, this blue toile shower curtain carries a dense ornamental scheme: baroque scrollwork, paisley-derived teardrops and acanthus curls in powder blue and warm sand, arranged in mirrored panels down a cream ground. The fabric has no sheen, which is what stops a period pattern from looking like a reproduction, and the shaped bottom edge keeps the drape even so the mirrored panels stay aligned. The two colours are close in value, so the pattern reads as a soft overall texture from the doorway and only resolves into distinct motifs at arm's length. Nothing in it is high contrast.

  • Size: 71 x 79 inches
  • Material: certified polyester, matte woven face
  • Colorway: powder blue and warm sand on cream
  • Pattern: mirrored baroque scroll and paisley detail
  • Finish: shaped bottom edge for an even drape
  • Feel: silky dry handle, no plastic cling
  • Water behavior: water-repellent surface
  • Rings: not included, sold separately
  • Pack: one panel

Ornament Against Plain White Sanitaryware

A pattern with this much detail earns its place in a bathroom that is otherwise entirely modern and plain, where it supplies the decoration the room was never given rather than competing with existing mouldings. It is grouped under our vintage shower curtains, and for the same historical register drawn in stronger colour the Vintage Print Shower Curtain is the bolder companion. In a small cloakroom the effect is closer to wallpaper than to a curtain, which is usually the point of buying it.

Questions, answered.

Not in the strict sense. Classic toile is a single-colour pastoral scene; this is baroque and paisley ornament in two colours on cream. It occupies the same decorative territory and reads as period pattern, but it is scrollwork rather than figures.

It is arranged in mirrored vertical panels, so the left and right halves answer each other and the motifs stack down the drop. Gathered on the rod that symmetry breaks up, which softens the formality if that is what you want.

Powder rather than mid-blue, closer to a faded delft than to cobalt. Against the sand and cream it reads as a soft accent. If you want blue to be the dominant colour in the room this will not deliver it.

Yes, provided the rest of the room stays plain. A dense pattern in pale colours does not close a space down the way a dark one does, and the cream ground keeps it light.
