Large-Scale Foliage Drawn in Outline and Sage
The repeat on this vintage botanical shower curtain is drawn at a scale you rarely see on a shower panel: long willow leaves, round seed heads and dotted flower discs run the full height in sage green and cream, with each shape outlined in a fine darker line so the drawing stays legible where the colours meet. Nothing is photographic and nothing is shaded. It is a flat two-colour pattern in the old block-printed tradition, and because the elements are large the design survives being gathered into folds without turning into a texture. The cream is a genuine off-white rather than a bright one, which keeps the sage from looking acidic against it.

It is drawn in the style of nineteenth-century block-printed furnishing fabric, with the flat colour and outlining that period used, rather than being a reproduction of a specific historic document. The drawing is original. What is authentic is the technique it imitates.
The individual motifs run to roughly a hand span, and the full repeat spans a substantial part of the panel height. That scale is unusual on a shower curtain, where most botanicals are drawn small. It is what allows the design to survive being gathered.
It is a soft sage with grey in it, not an olive and not a bright leaf green. Beside a warm cream wall it reads gentle. Against a cool white tile it will look slightly warmer than expected.
