A Shark Crossing a Weathered Diver-Down Flag

The design on this dark red shower curtain is a diver-down flag: a deep red field crossed corner to corner by a wide off-white diagonal, printed with the scuffs, cracks and paint loss of a board that has been at sea. A shark in black silhouette swims across the centre, its outline broken by the same weathering so it appears painted onto the flag rather than laid over it. Nothing else occupies the panel. There is no gradient anywhere on the panel and no shading behind the shark, which is what keeps it looking like a sign rather than a picture of one. The whole design is three flat elements.

Does the diagonal run the same way on every size?

Yes, always from lower left to upper right, and it is scaled to reach both corners on each cut. On the narrow 35-inch panel the angle is steeper as a result, which some people prefer.

Is the weathering a real texture I can feel?

No. The cracks, scuffs and paint loss are printed onto a smooth woven polyester. The panel feels flat to the touch, and the distressing is entirely visual.

How red is the red?

A deep, slightly brick-leaning red rather than a bright scarlet, which is what the flag calls for. Against white tile it reads strong; against a warm cream wall it settles down considerably.
