Keeping a White Ground Clean Under Pink Magnolia
The Magnolia Flower Shower Curtain is mostly bare white, and that is the fact that shapes how you look after it, because a photographic branch of deep pink magnolia entering from the top left leaves three quarters of the panel as unprinted ground. The blossoms are shot close and slightly overexposed, so the petals go from a strong fuchsia at the throat to almost white at the edges, and the bare brown branch runs diagonally down toward the centre. Nothing else occupies the panel: no background, no border, no second colour.

A Spring Branch Against Plain Tile

Photographed, at close range and in bright light. You can see the fine texture on the petals and the ridged bark on the branch, which is what gives the image its depth against the flat white.
It enters at the upper left corner and travels down and right, finishing around the middle of the panel. The lower right quadrant is essentially empty, so if you push the curtain to the left the blossom is what stays visible.
It should not, because this is a cool blue-pink rather than a warm salmon, and cool pinks read as modern against grey. What it does not suit is a beige or cream tile, where the fuchsia can look strident.
