A Red Betta Suspended on Solid Black

A single saturated red on a black ground is a demanding combination to keep clean, and the Marine Life Shower Curtain relies on a treated weave to hold it: the image is one betta fish photographed against a black backdrop, fins spread into a full translucent fan, its body a deep vermilion shading to orange at the edges. Nothing else appears in the frame. Any grey film across the black would show immediately, which is why the anti-stain finish is doing more work here than on a busy print. The fins fan out well beyond the body, thin enough at the edges that the black shows through them, and the tail spreads into a crescent reaching almost to the top of the frame.

How large is the fish on the panel?

It fills most of the width, with the fins reaching close to both edges on the 59-inch cut and a little more black around it on the 71-inch version. It is considerably larger than life size.

Does the background carry any gradient behind the fish?

It is flat and even, with no shading at all, which is what makes the fish look suspended rather than photographed in a tank. The only variation in the dark areas comes from the translucent fin edges.

Will the red look orange in a warm-lit bathroom?

It warms slightly, and the orange already present at the fin tips becomes more obvious, but the body stays clearly red. Under cool light the whole fish reads a shade deeper.
