Seven cuts, running from a 35-inch stall width to a 71 x 94 inch drop, mean the Masculine Shower Curtains can hold its composition in almost any enclosure. The image is drawn rather than photographed: a three-masted ship heeling over as tentacles come up around the hull, everything rendered in dense black hatching over a mottled grey wash, with breaking waves below built from tight curling lines in the style of an old engraving. Sky and sea share the same grey, separated only by the rigging and a broken horizon of foam. Two gulls are drawn near the top edge in a few strokes, small enough to be missed at first, and the tentacles carry rows of suckers picked out in white so they stand clear of the hull.

It is an original illustration worked in the manner of nineteenth-century maritime engraving, using the same hatching and wave conventions. It is not a scan of an existing plate.
It is a mottled wash, slightly uneven like aged paper, which sits behind the black line work and stops it looking like a flat sticker. The fabric itself is smooth.
The hull, the masts and the main tentacle group all fit within the 35-inch cut, because the artwork is arranged for a tall frame. What you lose at that width is the outer wave detail on each side.
It does at 86 F. The risk is not the black fading but the grey wash yellowing if a hot cycle is used, which reduces the contrast the drawing depends on.
