The milky way shower curtain is an astrophotograph run edge to edge: clouds of violet and teal gas spread diagonally across a black field, thousands of small white stars scattered through them, and a brighter core burning through the lower right where the dust thins out. There is no frame, no repeat and nothing drawn, so the panel behaves like a window rather than like a pattern. What makes it work at this size is that the darkest areas are genuinely black, which stops the colour from turning into a wash.

Dark Colour in a Room You Use at Night

Better than a mid tone does, yes. What it does show is limescale, which dries pale against a dark ground, so a rinse at the hem is worth more here than a wash.
It will, and that is worth knowing before ordering. In a room under about fifty square feet it works best on the shower side only, with everything else kept pale.
