A Mermaid on the Rocks With a Turquoise Tail

Unlike most seascapes, these ocean view shower curtains have a character in them. A mermaid sits on a cluster of wet brown rocks in the lower third of the panel, long hair over one shoulder, her tail drawn in overlapping turquoise scales that catch the light differently along their length. Behind her the sea runs flat to a high horizon in graded blue, and there is nothing else in the frame — no boat, no shoreline, no birds. The emptiness is what gives the figure its scale. The palette is narrow on purpose: a graded blue for the water and sky, turquoise for the tail, and a warm brown that appears only in the rocks and her hair. Nothing else on the panel carries colour.

The colour list mentions beige and brown, but the panel looks blue. Which is right?

Both, in different proportions. The listing colours cover the rocks and the mermaid's hair, which are genuinely brown and sand-toned, but they occupy a small part of the panel. What you see from across the room is blue and turquoise. Order it as a blue curtain and treat the warm tones as accents.

Is the mermaid drawn realistically or as an illustration?

It is an illustration with painterly shading rather than a photograph or a flat cartoon. The tail scales and the water have soft gradients, while the outline stays graphic. That combination is what makes it read as storybook rather than as fantasy art.

Where does the figure sit once the curtain is gathered?

Low and toward one side, so gathering the panel to the far end usually keeps her visible. If the folds land badly, sliding the whole panel a few inches along the rod fixes it, which is easier here than on a print with a centred subject.
