Are the chart markings legible?

Only partly, and that is intentional. The compass roses and script sit at low contrast behind the towers, so they read as an aged background rather than as text you are meant to follow.

How strong is the red on the towers?

Muted, closer to a weathered signal red than a fire engine one. That restraint is what lets it sit beside navy on a parchment ground without the panel looking like bunting. Nothing on this design is at full saturation.

Does the parchment look dirty?

It is a deliberate warm off-tone with faint mottling, not a grubby white, and most people read it as aged paper straight away. It does mean a genuine mark is harder to spot, so wash on schedule rather than on sight.
