A Penny-Farthing Against Bleached Boards

Stripped back to two elements, the Shower Curtains Retro place a black penny-farthing bicycle against a wall of bleached vertical boards, and nothing else appears on the panel at all. The large front wheel takes up most of the height, its spokes drawn as fine black lines, while the small rear wheel and the sprung leather saddle sit low to the right. The boards behind are photographed with visible grain, knots and grey shadow between each plank. Colors stay within bone, oatmeal and warm grey, with the bicycle providing the only black. It is the emptiest design in this group, and that restraint is the point.

Does the bicycle sit centered or to one side?

It sits slightly right of center, with the large front wheel forward and open board space to the left. Drawn fully closed the balance reads correctly. Gathered to the right it disappears into the folds.

Are the boards vertical or horizontal on this print?

Vertical, running the full height of the panel and echoing the drop of the fabric. That is what makes a low ceiling look taller. A horizontal board print would do the opposite.

Can this hang in a bathroom with a dark floor?

Yes, and the contrast usually helps. The bone and oatmeal tones lift against a dark tile or stained board floor, and the black bicycle ties the two together. A dark wall, on the other hand, closes the design down.
