Layered Paper Hearts Cut and Hung on Threads

The design on this valentines day shower curtain is built from paper rather than drawn: dozens of heart shapes, some scarlet and some white, are rendered as folded cut-outs hanging on fine threads from above, each casting a small shadow on the deep red ground behind. Depth comes from the layering and the soft focus on the hearts furthest back, so the panel has a real sense of space in it despite being a flat repeat. It is the most graphic of the seasonal designs here and the only one where red covers the whole panel. The threads are drawn fine enough to read as thread rather than as printed lines, which is the detail that sells the paper-craft idea.

Do the hearts look flat once the curtain is hanging?

The shadows under each cut-out survive the folds, so the layering still reads when the panel gathers. What flattens is the soft-focus depth at the back. Drawn flat across a bath the full effect returns.

Is the red scarlet or closer to burgundy?

It is a clear scarlet with no brown in it, which is why the white hearts read as high contrast rather than as cream. Under a warm bulb it deepens slightly. It is not a burgundy or wine tone.

Will such a strong red overwhelm a small bathroom?

It is a full-coverage colour, so in a small room it becomes the dominant surface immediately. That is manageable for a few weeks in February and heavy as a year-round panel. Plain white tile around it is what keeps it in balance.
