A pattern this dense needs the right amount of cloth around it, which is why this watercolor floral shower curtain comes in eight cuts: pink and cream roses, red poppies, yellow blooms and perched songbirds cover a soft mint ground with almost no gaps between them. On a narrow 35-inch panel that density reads as rich; on the 71 x 94 inch drop it becomes a wall of garden. Both work, but they are different rooms. The birds are the element that stops the repeat reading as wallpaper, since the eye keeps finding another one. Every flower is painted with visible pigment pooling at the petal edges, which is what separates a real watercolour repeat from a digital imitation of one.

It does repeat, but the arrangement is dense and irregular enough that the join is hard to pick out. On the 94-inch drop you will see the repeat once. Most people never notice where it falls.
Several are worked into the flowers across the panel, in different postures and colourings rather than one bird copied around. Finding them is part of why the print holds attention. They are painted at roughly life size relative to the roses.
It is a soft green with a hint of blue in it, which is what keeps the pinks and reds from looking hot against it. In daylight it reads green. Under a warm bulb it warms slightly toward sage.
