An Engraved Skull Over Antique Printed Text
Everything on Vintage Print Shower Curtain is printed in one narrow range, which is what makes the wash matter: a skull in three-quarter profile, drawn as a fine engraving with visible hatching, sits on a ground of aged cream paper covered in old set text and price lines. Roses and scrollwork are engraved around it in the same sepia ink, and a decorative frame runs down the left edge. There is no black in it and no white either, only browns and creams shading into each other. A slim engraved column and a moth occupy the left border, and the price line at the top right is the largest piece of text anywhere on the panel.

Aged Paper Tones in a Dark Wood Bathroom
It belongs in a room with dark timber, an old mirror or a brass fitting with some age on it, where the paper tones read as a document rather than as a stain, and it is far quieter on the wall than a skull print has any right to be. Parts of it are legible at close range as old advertising and price lines, but it is set at a size meant to read as texture from across the room. It is not a document to be read.
It stops at a deep sepia brown. There is no true black anywhere, which is what gives the panel its aged look instead of a graphic one.
Only if there is warm material elsewhere, such as wood or brass. Against white tile alone the cream ground can look dirty rather than aged.
